Love is in the Air

What fun I had creating my piece for the Studio Art Quilts Associates (SAQA) Benefit Auction. I started with the background which was actually leftover from another project and then added the giraffe on the left. At first I was going to have him eating a large petaled flower but then I thought that since I had another giraffe that could face him, why not have them falling in love!

"Love is in the Air" is the title of this piece. The auction begins on September 15th and you can see lots of fiber art submissions for the auction by visiting www.saqa.com. Each piece is a uniform 12" x 12" and fiber artists from all over the world are participating.

What Goes Around, Comes Around

They say "what goes around, comes around."  In keeping with "throw back Thursday" here is a photo of my sister's dog Jesse sitting comfortably on a quilt I made back in the early '80s using Marimekko fabric. I'm sure the backing is one large piece - probably a sheet or something. And it was definitely tied.

I still love Scandinavian design and the "Little Squares" quilt completed this week features some fabric by designer, Lotta Jansdotter among many other talented artists. In a recent Facebook poll, I solicited recommendations for the back of the quilt. The choices were between two shades of gray. My friend Linda suggested that I use some blocks from the front with the darker of the gray fabrics. So here's my version of the updated Marimekko quilt which will eventually go on my soon to be Etsy site.

Thanks for stopping by and have a great day!

Happy Mother's Day

My mom recently got an iPad and she is just  learning how to navigate her way through email and Google.  I wonder if she will see this blog posting before I have a chance to give her this table runner for Mother's Day.  I chose a favorite piece of vintage fabric that was given to my by a friend for the backing along with a few extra strips from the runner to break it up. Of course there were lots of scraps leftover  from the runner which turned into trivets and the scraps from the trivets turned into a set of coasters. Hopefully there's some wrapping paper around here!

Happy Mother's Day Mom!

All Occasion Cards

Lately I've been having fun making cards. I love taking  tiny scraps otherwise designated for the waste basket to create something useful and it's nice to have a few cards on hand ready to mail or include with a gift.  So get out your scraps and make a bunch!  Here's how:

Go to the scrap bin (or wastebasket!) and select a few coordinating bits of fabrics. Apply the base fabric to a small piece of Timtex using a light weight fusible.  Then place the smaller bits of fabric ( in this case I'm using a few precious scraps left over from a table runner I made with Jennifer Sampou's line, Studio Stash) on top of the fabric covered Timtex and stitch in place.  Trim to the desired size and apply to the front of the card using a small amount of blue to the back of the Timtex.
